Anita Mont first sat on a horse when she was 5 years old. Her mother found a coupon in the newspaper for lessons at a local stable. She was hooked immediately and knew from the very beginning that she wanted to jump. This led to lessons, training and eventually showing.

Growing up, she took advantage of every work opportunity available by cleaning stalls or riding and caring for other people’s horses. She cleaned water buckets and did other odd jobs at the barn where her pony was stabled in exchange for lower board.

Anita has catch ridden many horses and ponies in her career. One of her major accomplishments as a young horsewoman was training a pony from a 3 year old pony, 30 days under saddle, to USEF Pony Finals.

Anita has ridden with many top trainers including Olympians Chris Kappler and Anne Kursinski. She was invited to shadow Kappler and his team in Wellington in 2010 and became a working student 2011-2012.

In 2012, Anita turned professional and acquired Dare to Dream Farm where she runs the breeding program. Her program has already produced some promising youngsters. That summer she was accepted into the Emerging Athletes Program, but due to unfortunate circumstances, she was unable to participate. In 2013, she completed the Equine Appraisal Program and became a member of the American Society of Equine Appraisers.

Anita was selected as the North American Riders Group (NARG) Grant recipient for 2014! "While showing is important, I feel training is the key to success. The grant money will allow me to obtain much more valuable training than I could otherwise afford. Since coming to Florida this winter, I have already reached out to some trainers and recently started working with Anne Kursinski. I will also be able to compete at WEF more than my original tight budget would've allowed. There is no doubt that I will work hard to make the most of the NARG Riders' Grant. I am extremely grateful to NARG and the Southern-Heathcott family who make this grant possible", said Mont. Read the full press release here.

While commitment and perseverance are two distinguishing qualities, she has come to learn that passion is the driving force. Anita has a true passion for horses – it is in her blood. It drives her commitment and perseverance to meet the challenges that she faces daily and will continue to face in the future.

Anita is currently showing her horses at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, Florida. She has been working with 5 time Olympian Anne Kursinski. She's looking forward to a successful year!
